【サラリーマン生活・5年で1000万円貯蓄。自転車冒険家・小口良平の簡単節約生活〜おにぎりくん編〜】
2003年3月27日から僕の節約生活は始まりました。
当初はインターネットに触れるような自分でもなかったですし、携帯もまだパカパカ時代でした。
情報がない中で、まず自分が始めたのは「自力でお金を貯める」でした。
現在はクラウドファンディングの様なシステムがあり、資金の作り方も様々です。若い子たちに自転車世界一周の相談を受けた時に一言いわせてもらっています。
「どうしても届かないところまで、自分で頑張る。最初から頼ってはダメ。あと一歩、いや半歩まで頑張ろう。クラウドファンディングでお金を集めることを目的にしてはいけないし、それのための努力に固執して時間を費やしてはならない。」
誤解しないで欲しいのですが、お金を自分で貯めることが偉いわけではないです。直接お金をもらってはいませんが、実際に私もスポンサーメーカーさんにたくさんの物資提供を受けたからこそ、世界一周を安全に、そして最後まで達成できました。
多くのスポンサーメーカーさんの担当者さんが言ってくれました。
「いや〜実は会社での稟議は難しいんだけど、担当者の僕としておぐち君を応援したいんだよね。僕も若い頃に夢や野望はあったし、多くの先輩に助けてもらったからさ。きっと他のメーカーさんもそうだと思うよ。おぐち君みたいな若造に、会社の宣伝になるようにPRしてきますって言われても、実績もない若者にそこまで期待してないよ。どこの会社も、イメージアップや広告宣伝で物資提供はしていないよ。単純に、その担当マンの青春時代への懐古の憂いではないかな」
当時は全人口77億人SNSメディア時代とは遠いところにありましたので、なおさら実感できました。私自身もスポンサーメーカーさんへの恩返しになればと思い、旅中もメールやハガキを送り続けました。良かったことは、帰国しても繋がりを持てていることです。
そして、おにぎりくん生活で良かったこと。
それは、「自分が我慢できる人間だということがわかった」
それは旅の中でも生きていました。
「あの節約生活に比べたら、こんなサハラ砂漠地帯を抜けることなんか大したことない」
「今、帰国したら、あの辛かったおにぎりくん生活が無駄になる。そして僕は今、帰国したら、きっとまたおにぎりくん生活をするような仕事にしか就けない。」
僕の世界一周自転車旅の成功は、すでに日本であったようです。
長くなりましたが、「努力は裏切らない。そして我慢は辛抱を養い、それはこの先どんな生き方をしても武器になる」です。
